Day Three - Coach Trip to the Borders

For events during the beginning of the week, the group was divided into 3 sub groups, who did a different thing each day. Monday was our day to tour the Borders in a Coach, while other groups went to Edinburgh for the day, or had a day in Moffat including a walking tour.

If you're last on, then you go to the back of the bus - no matter whether or not you're a Lineberry!! That's it - all the way to the back of the bus. The "Mare's Tail Falls" in the distance with the stream from it in the foreground.

The long line of people from the coach up to the viewing area. Looking back down the misty valley from the viewing area for the falls. Lisa wishing one leg was longer than the other so that like a Scottish sheep she could stand up straight on the hillside.

Zooming in on the subject - make sure the flash fires too. Some of the George Moffat Family pose in front of the falls. The entrance to Abbortsford - the home of Sir Walter Scott.

An exterior view across part of the graveyard at Melrose Abbey. In the foreground one of the youngest attendees at "The Great Gathering" takes a photo. Another outside view. Some listen attentively, some gaze up in wonder, and some take photographs.

Another impressive view of the outside. The "museum" at Melrose Abbey - it's made from stones from the ruins of the Abbey. Note the size of the "foundations" in the foreground - part of the old Monk's quarters or Cloisters? (I forget <g>) A rhododendron, and behind that two of our Clan checking out the young pony.

Lisa with Pat and George Moffat. Lunchtime in Melrose. Lisa calls them "Pig Cows".

Guide Jan was so excited she showed us why her nickname is apparently "Squeaky".

They're "belted Galloway" cattle.

A very substantial mausoleum. This headstone is a memorial to 420 people who died of Asiatic cholera in Dumfries in 1832. The George Moffat family on the steps of St Michaels South in Dumfries.

A night at the opera? Actually it was a play put on by the local drama society - a version of "The Odd Couple" with a twist - it had an all female cast. It was very very entertaining, and enjoyed by all. The other side of the aisle. Some of the George Moffats. (OK so the flash was too bright).
